Stanley Black & Decker to add 400 jobs, with help of county/state loans

TOWSON, Md. (WBFF) – Stanley Black & Decker is expanding from Towson to White Marsh/Middle River, and it plans to add 400 jobs, with the help of some state and county loans.

The company, which has been growing its Global Tools & Storage business in Towson, is investing $8.5 million to build out new office space at the new Greenleigh at Crossroads development off of Route 43 near I-95. (Greenleigh at Crossroads is a $750 million mixed-use development.)

The new office space will feature positions in electrical and electromechanical engineering, digital and brand marketing, industrial design, finance and human resources.

Baltimore County is set to give a $200,000 loan toward the expansion, on the conditions that Stanley Black & Decker employ at least 2,000 full-time employees on-site by Dec. 31, 2020; invest up to $8.5 million there by Dec. 2020; maintain 660,000 total square feet of space; and maintain its headquarters at the project site for the full term of the loan.

(The site refers to both the Towson and Middle River locations.)

The County Council will discuss the loan, as well as a state loan, at a work session on Feb. 13. The council still needs to approve the loan, as well as a resolution supporting the state loan.

About 1,600 people are now employed at the Global Tool and Storage division headquarters in Towson.

Stanley Works and Black & Decker companies merged in 2010 and ranked 250 on the Fortune 500 list last year.

The company now has 565,000 square feet of space in Towson, including a 31-acre site on East Joppa Road and leased properties throughout downtown Towson.

“Stanley Black & Decker could have brought these jobs to any place in the United States. This major expansion by a global industrial leader shows their confidence in Baltimore County’s innovation economy and our highly skilled workers,” said Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz.
