Breaking Bread: A conversation on race in America
Heal America’s new video feature, Breaking Bread, invites people from all backgrounds to take a seat at the table to have conversations about race in America. Watch six strangers from different backgrounds and viewpoints demonstrate how the power of conversation may bridge divides.
ABOUT THE FEATURE
Hosted by Heal America Changemaker John Wood. Jr., Breaking Bread carves out a space for difficult conversations about race in America to be served with empathy and compassion. To move forward in this country, we must recognize the past and participate in the conversations that we’ve shied away from for too long.
These are the crucial conversations Americans must have to heal America.
Leon Ford, left permanently paralyzed by a police shooting, bonds with a police widow whose late husband was killed in the line of duty. A pair of professional political activists on the left and on the right open up to each other about how their unique backgrounds have informed their values. A Minneapolis-based TV host airs his complicated feelings about the unrest that greeted his city following the murder of George Floyd.
These six strangers set an important example by breaking bread together over a meal prepared by a chef whose own Minneapolis-based restaurant burned amid last year’s unrest.
