Pacheco: As Long As I Put In the Work And Stay Focused, Anything Is Possible – Boxing News

Diego Pacheco was already prepared to trust the process while waiting out the fights for which he already felt he was ready.

A step up in class, of sort, comes this weekend when the unbeaten super middleweight faces Jack Cullen (21-3-1, 9KOs). The bout serves as the makeshift headline this Saturday on DAZN from M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool, England. The star treatment has already been provided for the occasion, with Matchroom Boxing providing Pacheco with his own media workout in London prior to the official launch of fight week festivities.

“Eddie Hearn has a lot of great fighters in the UK that he supports a lot. Now he knows he has another stable in the US who are hungry and ready,” Pacheco told BoxingScene.com. “It’s time to make these fights happen. I want to fight the best, when the time is right. I’m only 21 so I know that time will come. That don’t mean I can’t fight the best for where I’m at right now. That’s why I’m in the sport.”

“As long as I put in the work and stay focused and dedicated, anything is possible.”

Pacheco (17-0, 14KOs) makes his U.S. debut this weekend, though he has already appeared on high-profile Matchroom shows in three different countries. The 21-year-old from South Central Los Angeles has previously fought in Mexico and Saudi Arabia in addition to the bulk of his time spent in the U.S. Saturday’s bout comes on the heels of a four-fight 2022 campaign, all won by knockout to extend his current streak to six in a row inside the distance.

In his most recent performance, Pacheco tore through Mexico’s Adrian Luna in a second-round knockout last December 3 in Glendale, Arizona. Luna was a late replacement, whom Pacheco and head trainer Jose Benavidez took seriously but regarded as the last stop of opponent on that level.

The promise of bigger fights on the horizon was immediately honored by Matchroom, who sought a co-feature slot on Saturday’s show versus the always entertaining Cullen.

The bout was upgraded to main event once local hero Callum Smith—a former WBA super middleweight titlist and current top light heavyweight contender—suffered a tweak in his back that forced him off the show. Pacheco was prepared for either role, knowing that the timing was right for such a fight—even if he felt he was ready all along.

“Obviously, promoters know what they’re doing,” Pacheco stated. “I just have to trust the process and their guidance. That’s what I’m doing. Matchroom has done an amazing job with my career so far, and they’re going to keep doing it. Eddie told me, ‘If you have the talent and are willing to put in the work, the path is here for you.’ I believe in that.”

Diego Pacheco Hopeful for an Eventual Fight with Edgar Berlanga

Diego Pacheco (L, Ed Mulholland/Matchroom Boxing USA), Edgar Berlanga

Diego Pacheco Looking Forward to Clash with Stablemate Edgar Berlanga

Diego Pacheco (17-0, 14 KOs) and Edgar “The Chosen One” Berlanga (20-0, 16 KOs) are two up-and-coming fighters in the super middleweight division. Both are part of the Matchroom Boxing roster and could be on a path to an eventual showdown. After parting ways with Top Rank, Berlanga signed a multi-fight deal with Matchroom in February 2023.

Pacheco is set for a ten-round contest against Jack Cullen on February 12 in Liverpool, England. Speaking to the UK source, iFL TV, Pacheco was asked about a potential fight with Berlanga.

“I know for sure that fight is going to happen down the line. He just signed to Matchroom, I’m signed with Matchroom. There’s no reason it shouldn’t happen now.

I just wish him the best. Wish him to keep winning, and I’m going to keep winning, and eventually that fight is going to happen, and it’ll be a really big fight.”

SHOWING PLENTY OF PROMISE

Observers are excited about their futures. Ranked ninth by the WBO, Pacheco is 3kingsboxing.com’s Prospect of the Year for 2022. At 6’4, the 22-year-old is tall for the division. Despite his height, he’s a well-rounded fighter capable of fighting in close, mid-range, or at a distance.

Berlanga is currently ranked fourth by the IBF and WBO. He may not have the range of Pacheco but is equal to him in the power department.

TIMING IS EVERYTHING

Pacheco also told iFL he’s optimistic a match with Berlanga could occur toward the end of the year. But Berlanga has yet to have his debut fight for Matchroom. So don’t expect to see the two hard-hitters in the ring against each other this year.

But as Pacheco noted, the key is for both of them to stay on course and continue to pile up the victories. Matchroom chairman Eddie Hearn understands the game of building two fighters up for a big-money matchup. That is certainly possible for Pacheco and Berlanga.

Callum Smith Injured, Pulls Out Of Pawel Stepien Fight For March 11, Pacheco – Cullen Headline – Boxing News 24

By Charles Brun: In flashbacks of Dillian Whyte’s pullout of his fight with Otto Wallin last year, Callum Smith has come down with an injury, and now has exited his risky fight that had been scheduled against unbeaten Pawel Stepien (18-0-1, 12 KOs)on March 11 at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool, England.

It’s unclear what the extent of Callum Smith’s injury is, but whatever it is, he’s now free & clear to wait for his WBC-mandated title shot/payday against IBF/WBC/WBO light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev without the risk of losing out on that opportunity.

Some boxing fans on social media see Callum’s injury as oddly similar to how Whyte pulled out of his fight with Wallin last year when he was on the verge of a lucrative fight against WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.

As bad as Whyte looked in his last two fights against Fury and Jermaine Franklin, Wallin would have made easy work against the faded fighter, who is fighting on the level of fellow countryman Derek Chisora at this late stage in his career.

With Calllum (29-1, 21 KOs) off the card, which will be shown live on DAZN, the ultra-talented super middleweight contender Diego Pacheco will slide into the headliner spot against Jack Cullen.

Some boxing fans felt all along that Pacheco vs. Cullen was the best fight on the card and deserved to be the main event over Callum Smith, who has done next to nothing with his career since his blowout loss to Canelo Alvarez in 2020.

The 21-year-old Pacheco (17-0, 14 KOs) is a talent destined for world honors and going some place, and he clearly deserved to be in the headliner spot from the jump rather than the 32-year-old Callum, who has been stagnating since getting embarrassed by Canelo.

It’s likely that Callum will now press for his immediate title shot against Beterbiev because it’s too risky for him to fight anyone in the interim unless he’s matched against a similar fodder-level opponent that he was fed to ‘earn’ his guaranteed title shot.

The timing of Callum Smith pulling out of the card is bad because with DAZN raising the prices for their annual subscription to the next galaxy Andromeda, there are tons of fans canceling their subscriptions with the streaming giant.

Many aren’t keen on watching the Youtuber boxing that DAZN is now showing, while many Americans have complained about the obscure UK fighters they’ve never heard of before and aren’t interested in subsidizing.

Each designer’s collection, from Saint Germain’s accessories that draw on Haitian culture for Uncharted to Shah’s inventive new uses of denim inspired by her Indian heritage for her brand, Breaking Identities, fuses Italian style with a global perspective. Moroccan-Italian designer Hazim finds inspiration in the Arabic women rising to power in the business world; Cuban-Italian designer Celda is breaking the boundaries of science and fashion with her antiviral materials; and Togolese-Italian Goungou has designed her own stretch kente fabric that updates the traditional Yoruba material. Watch the designers spend a day in Milan with Good Morning Vogue and receive an exciting surprise at the episode’s end.

In the name of the father, the son, and the house of Gucci, Good Morning Vogue is getting an exclusive look into the world of House of Gucci costume designer Janty Yates. Raven Smith met up with Yates in London to discuss costuming Lady Gaga, Adam Driver, Jared Leto, and more in the anticipated new film by Ridley Scott. Yates also gave Good Morning Vogue a preview of never-before-seen images and clips from the film. Inside London’s Gore Hotel, Yates describes the Gucci look of the film’s period, designed by the late Maurizio Gucci, as “round and brown.” “Tom Ford came and cut a swath through that!” she says. While Gaga does wear archival Gucci pieces in the film, Yates looked to vintage dealers and archive houses for many of the buzzed-about outfits and added heaps of accessories to Gaga’s looks. “She had 54 script days,” Yates says, “and she never repeated a look, not even an earring.”

In the studio, Good Morning Vogue runs into model-of-the-moment and 2000s style aficionado Jordan Daniels, who’s on hand to give us a crash course in shopping for a red carpet–worthy look at one of Milan’s best-loved vintage stores, Cavalli e Nastri. She also shares the secret to a 30-second updo. The last word on Y2K style, however, goes to Los Angeles native Devon Lee Carlson. Watch the full video for an exclusive tour of her closet and her best Y2K pieces. “We made it!” cheer the five designers who opened Milan Fashion Week in a new showcase of BIPOC talent. Sheetal Shah, Nyny Ryke Goungou, Romy Calzado Celda, Zineb Hazim, and Judith Saint Germain are Italian-based designers of color who took part in the Fab 5, Non Siamo una Moda—“Fab 5, We Are Not Just a Trend”—digital runway presentation, directed by Italian-Angolan writer-director Antonio Dikele Distefano and created by We Are Made in Italy, an organization founded by designer Stella Jean, Edward Buchanan, and Michelle Francine Ngonmo. “This project is a representation of diversity,” says Shah in the latest episode of Good Morning Vogue, hosted in Milan by Italian Vogue’s Francesca Ragazzi. “You know there is a lack of diversity in Italian designers, so it was a very interesting chance for me to come up and show my collection.”
