DeWALT DW735X Vs DW735 Vs DW734 : What Is The Best Benchtop Planer?

One of the primary tools required while doing any woodwork is the planer. Talking about the best brand of the planer, it is DeWALT. We are sure that if you are in the woodworking industry, then you would have heard a lot about this brand. It manufactures some of the best woodworking tools for the people, and DeWALT is surely an industry leader. This brand was founded in the year 1923, and since then, it has come a long way. Years of research and development have made it possible for DeWALT to manufacture such amazing products. At present, there are over 200 tools available from the brand.

DW734 vs. DW735 vs. DW735X

One of the most used tools in the wood workshop is a planner, and there are three amazing models that DeWALT manufacture. These are DW735X, DW735, and DW734. A lot of people have a confusion between these three models when it comes to purchasing decisions. Since you are on this page, we assume that you are also confused about your buying decision. Well, we are here to help you and in the next 10 minutes, you will be able to make a clear buying decision. Let us check out more information about these 3 planers from DeWALT.

DeWALT DW735X Benchtop Planer

We will first talk about DeWALT DW735X, and this is the best planer available in the market. This is the most advanced model from DeWALT and if you don’t wish to be more confused about the products, then you can go ahead and opt for this model now itself. If you are still confused about the difference between DeWALT DW735X and DeWALT DW735 then you will find all the details here.

One of the major differences between DeWALT DW735X and its predecessor is that this planer comes with a lot of accessories. The brand has included an infeed table as well as an outfeed table with the unit. You also get extra knives when you purchase DeWALT DW735X. This is useful because first, it eliminates the need for purchasing the infeed & outfeed table separately, and secondly, you have a replacement knife handy for the times when the first knife becomes dull. If we compare this with DeWALT DW735, then you need to understand that these two accessories are not offered with DeWALT DW735.

Talking about the power and cutting capabilities of DeWALT DW735X, it is also unmatched, and when you are buying this model, you are getting an assurance of the quality. The motor is powerful enough to cut through the hardest of food without putting any strain on the motor. The planer works well, and the output is smooth. Some planers make you use sandpaper even after you plane the board, but this will never be the case with DeWALT DW735X.

The motor capacity of DeWALT DW735X is 15 Amps, and the maximum rotations per minute that can be achieved by this motor is 20,000 rpm. You can alter the speed and choose a lower speed as well because this model has a speed selection for you. The feature is necessary because you would need to change the speed depending on the kind of wood you are using.  There are a total of 3 knives in the cutter head, and they are long-lasting. It is also easy to replace the knives in case you need to replace the knives after a long term usage.

Pros of DeWALT DW735X

  • This is one of the best planers for the professionals, and it is the top of the line product.
  • It comes with an infeed & outfeed board.
  • The dual-speed gearbox lets you alter the speed and thus altering the cuts per inches.
  • The carriage lock is automatic, and there is also a chip ejector in this model.
  • The brand offers a 3 year warranty on the planer.
  • The size of the board that can be accommodated here is 13 inches.
  • It can easily cut through the toughest of the board without straining any motor.
  • The blades last very long, and you also get extra knives with the product.

Cons of DeWALT DW735X

  • Because of the power, the machine can get slightly loud when you are using it.
  • Since you are buying top of the line product, you will have to spend slightly more.

DeWALT DW735 Benchtop Planer

We have already talked about the best planer among the three models that we are comparing. We will now give you more details about DeWALT DW735 so that you can establish a comparison between the two models. If you like this model and if you think that this is what you need, then you might also end up saving some money. The first thing that we would like to tell you about DeWALT DW735 is that it features a 2-speed gearbox which enables you to alter the speed of the motor. By altering the speed, you can choose to either select 179 cuts per inch or you can select the speed of 96 cuts per inches.

The cutter head of DeWALT DW735 is also very durable, and just like its successor, it features a 3 blade cutting head. This means that there is no compromise on the quality of output here. The knives are designed in a way that they last 30% longer than the knives from other brands. If the need arises, you can change the knives, and it takes just about a few minutes to complete the replacement. There are handles on the body which enables you to carry DeWALT DW735 to different places. The lightweight design is an add-on in this situation.

Another thing that you would like about DeWALT DW735 is the handwheel that is placed at one of the sides. This hand wheel helps you in changing the depth of the cut. The advantage of this wheel is that it gives you the required flexibility while you are working with different types of wood. We have already mentioned about the dual-speed motor, and the switch to control the speed is in front of the planer, which also makes it easy to operate.

Another amazing thing about DeWALT DW735 is that there is an emergency stop button that can stop the planer instantaneously when the need arises. Before we move on to the next planer, you can check out the pros and cons of the machine in brief, and you also need to understand that all these features are available in DeWALT DW735X.

Pros ofDeWALT DW735

  • The cutter head has a 3 knife assembly, which lasts 30% longer than the regular assembly.
  • You get a two-speed selection gearbox, which lets you operate at 96 cuts per inch or 179 cuts per inch.
  • The size of the board that can be accommodated here is 13 inches.
  • It also comes with 4 column carriage lock that reduces the snipe. This is an automatic lock in the planer.
  • The brand offers a standard 3 year warranty on the machine.
  • DeWALT DW735 also has a chip ejector to make it easy to clean the planer.

Cons of DeWALT DW735

  • The planer doesn’t come with an extra set of blades.

DeWALT DW734 Benchtop Planer

Let us now talk about DeWALT DW734, and the first thing that we would like to mention about DeWALT DW734 is that it is one of the most affordable options among the three. Another thing that makes this a good option is that it comes with an infeed and out feed table. You can also remove the table, and you will be able to use it on the bench or the floor. The planer is stable as it comes with four columns that provide the required stability to the machine. You would not experience vibrations while you are operating DeWALT DW734 at full speed.

It is possible to work on the hardwood with the use of DeWALT DW734 as it has a reliable set of cutting heads. What compliments theses cutting heads is the rotation speed of 20,000 rotations per minute. This is achievable because of a powerful 15 Amp motor. The motor is heavy duty and it never gets overheated because of the amazing gear system featured in DeWALT DW734. You get a smooth finish because of this tight coupling.

The cutter head of DeWALT DW734 also has 3 knives, and they are capable of delivering 10,000 rpm. If you are concerned about the cuts per inches, then do not worry as DeWALT DW734 gives you 96 cuts per inch. The result is a smooth plank of wood that doesn’t need any manual sanding. We have talked about this earlier, and the fact is that DeWALT offers a high-quality knife in every machine. As per an estimate, these knives last 30% longer than the regular knives that you will find in the market. Replacing the knives is also not a big deal at all.

DeWALT DW734 is one of the lightest planers in the list, and it is specifically for the professionals who have to carry their planer to the client location. The infeed and the out feed table provide you with the required stability, and the snipe is also minimal.

Pros of DeWALT DW734

  • It has minimal snipe because of the four columns. It is further reduced by the infeed and outfeed table.
  • The knives are long-lasting and they deliver the required finish.
  • The brand offers 3-year warranty on DeWALT DW734.
  • Cleaning DeWALT DW734 is also very easy as it comes with a dust management system.
  • It is a Lightweight planer and it is designed for the people who need to carry it to the client location.
  • It is one of the most affordable planers on the list.

Cons of DeWALT DW735X

  • You might experience a minor faltering while using it on hardwoods.
  • Some people may not like the lightweight design.

Final Verdict

We did extensive research before coming up with this content. We have listed all the possible information about these 3 planers from DeWALT. You have gone through the reviews, comparison, and a lot of other information as well. Moreover, we would recommend you to opt for DeWALT DW735X because of the amazing feature this offers. This wood planer would not only eliminate the need to purchase the infeed and outfeed tables, but this model will also ensure that you would never have to use sandpaper again. With this, we will conclude the space, and if you have any more questions, share it with us in the comment sections, and we will soon get the answers from the experts.

Who Makes The Best Corded Angle Grinder? Hilti vs Milwaukee, DeWalt, Makita, Ryobi, Ridgid. Let’s Settle This!

So this video right here is going to be interesting for me. To be clear, I love Project Farm videos and I usually watch them before posting them, but I have not watched this one yet. That’s because I want to be able to tell you my thoughts about grinders with no prejudice from watching the video. My position on corded electric grinders is this… I am a guy that never spends more than $20 or so on a grinder.

I used to own a company building fence panels, gates, metal doors, and more and used a grinder each and every day. This was 20 years ago, and during that time I had expensive grinders and cheap grinders and never found the expensive grinders to last any longer than the cheap ones. In fact, they usually didn’t last as long. So instead of spending 5 times as much for an expensive grinder I just started buying the cheap ones. The other benefit to this was that I actually bought more of them and had a spare just in case.

And, I would buy the replacement warranty, which is just a percentage of the purchase price, so for $5 I could bring it back when it died and get a new one for two years. It was a much better financial decision, and in my experience they were good enough to do the job.

But are they as good as a high-dollar grinder? Are they as powerful? Do they overheat? Do they have the same features? That kind of depends I’m sure. So let’s watch this video from Project Farm where they are put through their paces in a “scientific” method.
