Terry Reed Pacheco
October 8, 1966 ~ November 3, 2017
Husband, father, grandfather, teacher, coach, heavy metal enthusiast, Dallas Cowboy loyalist, and biker; Terry Reed Pacheco, passed peacefully from this life on November 3, 2017. Terry lived his life boldly and on his own terms.
Terry was born October 8, 1966, to Felix and Geneva Pacheco, in Brigham City, Utah. He was a proud alumnus of Central Elementary and Box Elder High School. Growing up, Terry’s Native American culture was a big part of his life. His Santa Domingo Pueblo father and Northwestern band of Shoshone mother, taught him to dance, sing, and drum. Terry’s best memories were of making the Pow-Wow circuit with his family, where he became a champion Fancy Dancer.
Terry served in the Nashville Tennessee Mission. He married Valorie Kae Broadhead, on June 7, 1990, in Logan, Utah. They settled in Ogden, Utah, where Terry attended Weber State University and earned a Bachelors Degree in Physical Education. He started his teaching career with Weber School District at Canyon View as an Adaptive P.E. Instructor. During this time, he earned his Special Education Endorsement from Utah State University, which led to his lifelong passion and joy in teaching students at T.H. Bell Jr High and Bonneville High School.
Terry was the kind of teacher who made a difference in his student’s lives. As much as he loved teaching, Terry put his heart and soul into coaching Cross Country, Wrestling, and Track. He believed that building character was more important than winning championships. He formed lasting relationships with his athletes, several of whom planned a 5k in his honor in 2016, “The Pacheco Rock & Run.”
Terry had a magnetic personality and people were drawn to him. He enjoyed socializing and lived up to the name he earned in his childhood, “Talks-Too-Much.” His family joked about the two-degrees of separation of Terry Pacheco because he seemed to know everyone and they knew him. He loved riding his Harley and enjoyed the camaraderie with his brothers in the Stryker MC.
Terry absolutely loved his two little daddy’s girls, Sharmaya and Jessica. He fell victim to their big brown eyes and could not tell them “no”. The last 19 months of Terry’s life were completely lit up by his grandson, Atticus. He spent every day with his BFF Atti and Atti loved his Papa dearly.
Terry got a second chance at life in 2002, after receiving a kidney from his best friend, Preston Warren. Thanks to his selfless act, Terry was able to spend an additional 15 years with his family. A special thank you to the staff at Liberty Dialysis in South Ogden, for their special attention and care. They made a difficult experience so much more bearable for Terry.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents; nephew, Jason Pacheco; and mother-in-law, Anna Lee Broadhead. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Valorie Kae Pacheco; daughters, Sharmaya Marie Sanchez and Jessica Sedona Pacheco; and grandson, Atticus Reed Morton; brothers: Tom (Ronda) of Brigham City, Utah; Merlin (Holly) of Brigham City, Utah; and Robert (Granite City, Illinois); and many beloved nieces and nephews. Terry was also part of a large extended family of brothers and sisters whom he loved and was loved dearly.
Services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 8, 2017, at Myer’s Mortuary, 845 Washington Ave., Ogden, Utah. A viewing will be held Tuesday, November 7, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday, November 8, 2017, from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Interment will follow at the Francis Cemetery, Francis, Utah.
