Fatal Car Crash Near Pacheco State Park

On Sunday, September 18, 2022, the California Highway Patrol reported a fatal car crash near Pacheco State Park. Officials described the incident as a hit-and-run accident involving two vehicles on State Route 152.

Details on the Fatal Car Crash Near Pacheco State Park

A preliminary report revealed that a Kia Optima and a 2007 Lexus were both traveling eastbound on SR-152 shortly after 1:50 a.m. For unknown reasons, the Lexus allegedly rear-ended the Kia. This caused the Kia to veer out of control and travel approximately 200 ft. down an embankment. The Kia came to a rest on its wheels after overturning, CHP traffic officers reported.

The Kia driver, a 49-year-old Castaic man, sustained serious injuries. He was able to contact emergency personnel, but it took crews approximately an hour to reach their vehicle, officials reported. Sadly, a passenger in the Kia, a 42-year-old Castaic woman, was declared deceased at the crash site. Her identity has been withheld due to pending family notification.

After the two-vehicle crash, the Lexus driver reportedly continued until the vehicle became disabled on Highway 152 close to Dinosaur Point Road. Authorities found the Lexus abandoned. Anyone with information on the hit-and-run accident is encouraged to contact the CHP Hollister-Gilroy area office and speak with Officer M. Sakamoto or Officer T. Mahanay.

Talon Marks | Blanca Pacheco fundraiser interrupted by protestors

A fundraiser for Blanca Pacheco, the first Latina elected for the Downey City Council and as the mayor of Downey, was held on Sept. 20 to help gain momentum for Pacheco’s campaign.

The event was abruptly interrupted by protestors who supposedly represented Downey’s water district and advocated for rent control.

“We’re here to protest you people, you people are bad, you don’t want to clean the water, where’s the accountability,” said one of the protestors with his megaphone.

The protestor stated that Pacheco was going to allegedly receive a fundraiser from private water companies.

Cerritos College Board of Trustees member, Mariana Pacheco, shared her thoughts about the water issue which was advocated by the protestor.

“They’re going to do whatever they can to make it as noisy as possible, it’s nothing new by the way,” said Pacheco.

The Board of Trustee member said that the protestors wanted them to pay more money to treat the water and added, “Our water is fine and they tested it, it’s not an issue, they’ve already done reports and the council voted no.”

The organization that helped supported the protest was the Peace and Freedom Party in Los Angeles, who posted on their Instagram that they were invited by the downeytenantsunion.

“As a socialist party, we believe the speaker of the house should be the voice of the Californian working class,” the post said.

“We are socialist and we are supporting [the] working class issues like rent control, that Mayor Pacheco is against,” Aaron Reveles said.

Aaron Reveles is the leading member of the Peace and Freedom Party in Los Angeles, on the state committee, and currently running for MUSD school board, talked about the protest.

“We supported [the protest] but we did not create it,” Reveles said, “Socialism will win.”

Law enforcement later showed up, on behalf of the owners of the OLA Restobar, to ask the protestors to move further away from the restaurant because it impacted their business.

The event would have continued to be held outside so the OLA Restobar could continue its business indoors, but due to the event moving inside, it impacted its ability to run its establishment.

Emilio Sosa, a chief executive officer for The Arc of Los Angeles and Orange Counties, said, “She would support ending homelessness and increasing funding for education.”

Sosa also mentioned that Pacheco cares about all communities and that the cities she represents would also benefit the most.

A council member from district five of Downey, Mario Trujilo, announced their supervisor, Janice Hahn.

Hahn is a strong, confident supporter of Pacheco and said that someone had reached out to her to find a potential candidate to run for the seat and that she immediately thought of Pacheco.

According to Hahn, Pacheco wanted to check with her family first and after a couple of days, Hahn called Pacheco to see if she had an answer.

Pacheco answered the call to run for a seat in the California State Assembly, which will be held on Nov. 8.

Federico Exaggerated by Hazel Pacheco — Book Goodies

Federico Exaggerated by Hazel Pacheco

Book two of the Henry and Friends series, features the flamboyant Federico who loves the spotlight, and frequently regales the covey with his exaggerated tales of daring. In this episode, Federico captures the attention of his audience with an inflated story of his bravery on the Rio Grande. Without warning, he is interrupted by the announcement of ripe hackberries. Left without an audience, Federico stomps off and accidentally stumbles onto something that might recapture his friends’ attention—well maybe. What he finds might teach him that truth can be incredible on its own. He just needs to convince his friends he’s not exaggerating.

Beautifully illustrated with Kim Sponaugle’s vibrant watercolors, Federico Exaggerated presents an educational, yet humorous tale that delivers a subtle faith inspired message that encourages accepting imperfection in each other.

Targeted Age Group:: appropriate for children
Heat/Violence Level: Heat Level 1 – G Rated Clean Read

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
My inspiration for Federico Exaggerated are the desert quails who live in my native Land of Enchantment. I became acquainted with them during my many walks along the arroyos.

How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
It was complete happenstance, that I came upon a convention of quail during one of my walks along the arroyo. I call it a convention, because I had never seen such a large group out in the open. Maybe it was a reunion. I am guessing there must have been at least two coveys if not three. They did not seem to notice me, but I noticed there was one large male perched on a high rock. He was calling to the group trying mightily to get their attention, but the other quails were busy calling to each other and paid him no mind. It amused me and made me wonder what was going on. My imagination went to work, and Federico came to be.

Diego Pacheco Leads Canelo-Golovkin Undercard With KO

Diego Pacheco Leads Canelo-Golovkin Undercard With KO

LAS VEGAS — Super middleweight prospect Diego Pacheco took his time before bringing the hammer down on Enrique Collazo.

After a slow-paced four rounds that Pacheco dominated, he dropped Collazo hard in the fifth round and finished him in the follow up attack to win a regional title in the final fight before the start of the Canelo Alvarez-Gennadiy Golovkin III pay-per-view on Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena.

Pacheco, in his first fight since his recently announced contract extension with Matchroom Boxing, landed a powerful right hand in the fifth round that sent Collazo (16-3-1, 11 KOs), 33, a 2012 Puerto Rican Olympian, to the mat. He was wobbly but beat the count and responded well enough to referee Celestino Ruiz that he was allowed to continue but Pacheco was all over him.

He forced a still shaky Collazo to the ropes and after Pacheco (16-0, 13 KOs), 21, of Los Angeles, landed a few more shots, Ruiz stepped in and waved it off at 2 minutes, 29 seconds.

Castro blasts Mendoza

Lightweight prospect Marc Castro dominated Kevin Montiel Mendoza en route to a highlight-reel fifth-round knockout.

Castro (8-0, 6 KOs), 22, of Fresno, California, who was appearing on his fifth Alvarez undercard, was in total control when, just before the bell ending the fourth round, he landed an overhand right that buckled Mendoza and sent him into the ropes.

Castro spent the fifth round nailing a retreating Mendoza (6-2-2 3 KOs), 23, of Mexico, with clean shots before landing a powerful right uppercut that dropped Mendoza hard, causing referee Tony Weeks to stop the fight without a count at 1 minute, 40 seconds.

Aponte vs. Molina a draw

Canelo Promotions prospect Fernando Molina and Aaron Aponte battled to a split draw in their junior welterweight bout in which they were each knocked down. One judges had it 75-75 and the other two judges each had it 76-74, one for Aponte and one for Molina.

Aponte (6-0-1, 2 KOs), 21, of Hialeah, Florida, scored a knockdown late in the second round when he landed a short left hand, although he also appeared to push Molina (8-0-1, 3 KOs), 20, of Mexico.

Molina rocked Aponte in the fourth and then dropped him late in the fifth round with a clean right uppercut followed by a right hand.

Herrera win by tech. dec.

Bantamweight Anthony Herrera (3-0-1, 2 KOs), 21, of Los Angeles, notched a shutout fifth-round technical decision against Delvin McKinley (4-4-1, 4 KOs), 26, of New Orleans, in a scheduled six-rounder.

Herrera won 50-45 in a dominating performance but the fight halted at 19 seconds of the fifth round due after an accidental head butt left McKinley dazed with swelling around his right eye.
